Caption Reads: (Left Column) This profusion of tribal finery, was worn by many tribal members as the sign of a warrior's high status. The ceremonial headresses were generally made of animal hair, as is the one to the right. When occasion called for the donning of a headress, it was attached to the head with a roach spreader, such as these, above, which were carved from elk horn.

(Right Column) The fastening was done by pulling a braid of hair through the large hole at the end, then, it was bound by pushing a small wood peg through the braid. Feathers were often put in the holes of a roach spreader, for additional dress. The Grizzly bear claw necklace (above) was highly prized and often achieved only by killing the Grizzly themselves, or they were passed down through generations
